RHY.2:10 - Architectural Rationale
The method separates choosing what matters from choosing how to encode it. That prevents a tool’s data format from deciding the ontology of rhythm. The two choices can iterate: difficulty representing a relation may reveal an ambiguity in the selection, and a better observation may change the selected units.
Selection also preserves relations across grains. A phrase, a carrier and an articulation can constrain one another without becoming one list of equivalent events.
