RHY.9:10 - Architectural Rationale
A performance relation includes production, information and a receiver able to act. Optimizing any one separately can defeat the relation. Preparatory movement can help precisely because it precedes the event; a second channel can help precisely because the sound-producing channel is occupied.
The method changes the arrangement only far enough to make the rhythmic contribution usable. The availability of timing information and the performer’s ability to combine the required actions remain separate constraints.
