RMP.8:10 - Rationale

A research result and its use are connected by particular assertions, assumptions and interpretations. Revising those connections prevents both overclaim and indiscriminate withdrawal.

Keeping the research contribution separate from receiving authority permits a useful answer even when the practical choice is unfinished. Keeping future inquiry separate from obtained evidence permits honest completion without denying the value of a longer research programme.
