RMP.8:4.1 - Locate the assertion and its receiving question

Recover the earlier wording or model relation, its referents, comparison, context and time. State what result has arrived, what examination actually produced it, and which part of the account it bears on.

Ask whether the two sides concern the same claim. A factory’s decision to close and its later closure are different events. A laboratory parameter and a field-use parameter can denote different conditions. A new finding about another population can be useful without contradicting the original bounded claim.

For an emerging account, identify the proposed contribution and what existing material it would add to or qualify. If there is no earlier claim to correct, state an addition rather than inventing a prior error.

Recover the receiving question when it changes how much explanation or assurance is needed. The question may be a scientific explanation, a reusable knowledge contribution or an engineering, public or personal use. Immediate operating benefit is not the only legitimate value of research.

If the source, subject correspondence or actual result is missing, return that specific gap. A selected credibility examination and a proposal for synthesis cannot serve as their performed results.
