Should SensorCo prepare a service trial or continue with devices?
SensorCo’s device and service contracts remain viable for the next twelve months. Its strategy team is comparing device-only continuation with a new integrated service. Six interested customers and two trial discussions are not paid demand. The complete constructed Strategy case supplies the assumptions and alternatives.
PSD.10 helps state the decision-relevant uncertainty. STR.7 asks whether more evidence can change the choice enough to justify obtaining it. If full costing makes every feasible service alternative inferior to device-only continuation under the stated criterion, the comparison can finish without a trial. Incomplete costing leaves that comparison open. A customer-data experiment cannot supply permission to use those data.
The team recommends four internal preparation days, displacing a four-day device-diagnostic improvement. The Board authorizes those four days from an eight-day preparation/use envelope. STR.11 keeps that authorization distinct from trial execution, all eighteen proposed development days and the still-open twelve-month direction.
A later shared-work comparison has eighty internal person-days. Service, reserve, trial work, platform work and learning would demand ninety. A reduced proposal totals seventy-eight, retaining the eight-day reserve. Two of its six platform days preserve a device-compatible fallback; they are already counted, not the two unallocated days. STR.14 also checks when qualified people are needed: a monthly total can fit while Tuesday needs ten qualified analyst-hours and only eight are available.
STR.8 identifies the contributions needed for the selected option. OCE.9 guides an organization-capability increment; HCD guides the needed human-capability development; the platform provider must supply tools and access. Each contribution has its own conditions and evidence. The seventy-eight-day arithmetic neither demonstrates those capabilities nor authorizes the larger proposal.
The useful return now is the bounded preparation decision and its unresolved conditions. Independent preparation can proceed within its authority; missing data permission stops the dependent use. Use STR.12 when an observed change calls for reconsideration.
