B.5.EA:5.2 - A teacher’s “they do not understand”

A teacher can repeat this judgement but cannot identify the missing contribution. The listener asks for the moment when it became noticeable. The teacher recalls that learners waited for the name of a method, then carried out its steps correctly.

The next formulation distinguishes selecting a method from executing it when named. It makes a different teaching question possible: what in a situation should help the learner choose?

If the teacher later notices that the waiting learners lacked a diagram supplied to the others, the interpretation changes again. Unequal access to a representation may explain this episode. The original distinction remains useful, but the episode no longer supports the same capability judgement.
