A format distributes attention, material and opportunities to respond. Its value therefore depends on the action participants need to perform. The same group can need a private case conversation, a broad comparison and quiet independent access at different times.
Preserving the return is as important as producing contributions. Splitting a group without connecting its findings loses shared context; recording everything without selecting what the next action needs creates another burden. A bounded result and receiving use give the organiser a reasoned choice.
