CB.6:10 - Rationale

Recognition connects a contribution with a person’s understanding of its value and of their relation to others. The same gesture can convey different meanings because its audience, terms and the person’s circumstances differ. Those conditions provide reasons for choosing a response; the recipient’s account helps establish how it was received.

An incentive also changes what is worth producing under its rules. A measure that is easy to increase can draw effort away from the receiving need. Inspecting the work and the recipient’s experience makes that displacement visible and gives the organiser a specific repair.
