HCD.20:1 - Problem Frame

A provider chooses four-person groups because the platform makes them convenient. One member can already solve the task, two wait for the answer and one keeps time. The report is correct, but the intended model selection occurred only once. Elsewhere, an observer at a shared instrument predicts a reading, challenges a choice and later performs the operation; lack of continuous hands-on time is not lack of all learning activity.

Both situations resist a universal preferred size. The limiting resource may be sequential explanation, access to an instrument, feedback, confidentiality or the effort of coordinating different schedules. Prior subject knowledge and experience of working together also change what help the arrangement needs.

A comparison must preserve the target contribution and include the costs carried by learners and providers. Reducing paid mentor minutes by requiring lengthy peer work is a substitution whose consequences need comparison, not a saving established by its label.
