HCD.25:4.1 - Choose the learning question before allocating presentation time

State the operation the learner needs to recognize or adapt. For example, distinguish reusing a calculation under unchanged conditions from obtaining evidence about a newly changed condition. Recover that operation’s subject basis and the learner’s relevant preparation. HCD.6.1 supplies a needed distinction; HCD.12 distinguishes transfer of an earlier contribution from learning a new one.

Choose cases that expose a consequential similarity and a meaningful difference. Two cases can suffice for a focused comparison. More cases are useful only when they reveal another condition or correct a misleading cue. Equal speaking time for every project is a participation choice; it is not a selection method for the present learning question.

Determine what a participant must understand to make the comparison. A short explanation of the quantities, actors or constraints may supply the entry. If the case requires a professional qualification the group lacks, obtain a qualified account of the relevant step and keep its scope. Do not silently ask learners to validate a technical or clinical conclusion outside their preparation.
