HCD.28:0 - Use This When
Use this pattern when an author or provider must offer a coherent way to learn a contribution to later work, but the future learners are not yet known individually, or the programme, material and support no longer fit together. Begin with the work the audience should become able to do, its plausible preparation, and the actual conditions of supply.
The first useful result is a whole learning-product account: one or more comparable constructions connecting entry conditions, subject content, learning tasks, materials, practice, feedback, observation and delivery, with their full burdens and unresolved dependencies. A complete small task family can make a first comparison useful. State which larger outcomes it leaves unconstructed.
The practical gain is locating a missing connection before multiplying lessons or enrolments. An author can distinguish a missing subject method from a material that fails to teach an available method and from help that cannot be supplied. The result supports product development and a separate offer or launch decision; it does not establish learning, market demand or operational readiness.
Do not use this pattern when a suitable product can already be used directly, when only one material needs diagnosis through HCD.19, or when the question is comparing programmes for a known person through HCD.2. A competent provider may produce a needed work result without teaching the customer; that can be a good service, but it is a different promise from developing the customer’s contribution.
