HCD.4:8 - Common Anti-Patterns and How to Avoid Them

Anti-patternWhy it failsRepair
“Overall mastery: 72%”The aggregate can hide a critical error and unsupported claim.Restore claim rows and make the receiving decision justify any later aggregate.
“Complete level 2 before level 3”A convenient ladder becomes an unsupported Work or learning sequence.Show simultaneous contributions. Use a local intermediate target only when the current decision needs it, and judge its achievement from observations rather than course position.
“The platform predicts mastery”A model output depends on its data, item representation, task, and support assumptions.Keep it as one evidence source and require direct claim-task-observation-inference trace.
“The target profile is the current profile”Intention is mistaken for current evidence or transformation.Record current, target, difference, and evidence dates separately.
“Improve the weak dimension”The decision can damage a strong claim, authority boundary, or protected consequence.State preserved claims and moved trade-offs before recommending priority.
“The profile chose the programme”A comparison neither generates alternatives nor supplies an HCD.2 Method.Stop at recommendation, blocker, or complete C.11 choice over already-available non-programme options.
“More data”The next observation has no decision-changing purpose or bounded cost.Name the exact probe, budget, cost, value, and reversal condition—or close now.
“The manager is the subject”Manager authority over allocation does not erase the human holder’s participation or transfer clinical, safety, or release authority.Keep DecisionSubject, participation, and direct-owner authorities explicit.
