HCD.6.1:5.2 - Distinguishing active work from elapsed time
A trainee sees two requests completed in ten minutes each and treats them as equal demands on an operator’s active work. The supplied work records show the operator working continuously on one request, and working for two minutes with eight minutes of waiting on the other.
The trainer asks the learner to mark the operator’s active intervals and add their durations: ten minutes for the first request and two for the second. The distinction now changes the calculation of active operator time. It does not determine how long equipment remains occupied or whether the operator is reserved during the wait.
A next case preserves two active minutes but changes the wait. Another preserves the ten-minute completion time while changing active operator time. If the learner still equates elapsed time with active work, the trainer can locate the missed relation. The records must actually show those intervals; completion time alone cannot supply them.
