IS.3 - Construct and Adapt a Support Strategy with Its Recipients

Type: Method pattern Status: Stable

Primary working result: an explained support strategy with obtainable contributions, an intelligible local use, decision-relevant observations and a bounded start or precise missing condition.

IS.3:1 - Problem frame

Use this when the useful contribution is sufficiently understood but several forms, combinations or intensities of help remain plausible. Also use it when a current strategy no longer fits the recipient, target, available means or support demand.

Start from the contribution the next receiving use needs. Compare the existing adequate way with one materially different way of supplying it. Explain what a performer would actually do, what conditions make that useful, what the next receiver obtains and who can provide the whole contribution at the required time.

The governed subject is the support strategy: the way of helping establish, use or revise the target practice. Its description, schedule and provided arrangement are different things. A strategy can include teaching, expert performance, facilitation, condition repair or a change of target, but naming these activities does not supply their Methods.

Use an already sufficient strategy and arrangement directly. A routine access repair needs no portfolio of alternatives. When the primary unresolved question is technical validity, an organization’s architecture or the recipient’s development direction, obtain that professional result before treating its answer as a support-design choice.

IS.3:2 - Problem

A selected strategy can be plausible in the abstract and unworkable at the moment of use. Training can occur without the inputs needed for later practice. An expert can be available after the receiving decision. A common service can save preparation while creating an excessive queue. A local adaptation can improve convenience by deleting the very operation the target needs.

A second problem is confusing the target with its introduction. A failed briefing need not invalidate the target Method. A different technical criterion is not merely better coaching. Without that distinction, teams repeat all support after a local failure or silently change the target while reporting fidelity.

The practical problem is to construct complete support alternatives, choose one at acceptable whole burden, make its local actions correspond to the intended contribution and preserve a route for revising the correct object.

IS.3:3 - Forces

ForceConsequential tension
Subject integrity and local fitThe decisive operation must remain, while inputs, timing or permissible forms can vary.
Personal acquisition and provided resultsLearning can improve future autonomy; expert provision can meet an immediate need without that acquisition.
Common support and local knowledgeReuse can save effort, while context reconstruction and queues can consume the saving.
Support intensity and burdenToo little help can defeat use; too much can consume capacity or obscure the intended performer’s contribution.
Current service and changeThe same qualified time may be needed for ordinary obligations and for development or implementation.
Comparability and different promisesCheap alternatives may supply different results or move work to a less visible participant.
Action and inquiryThe strategy must support useful work while obtaining only the observations that can change its next use.

IS.3:4 - Solution

Construct alternatives from the contribution to be obtained, not from a catalogue of intervention names. Work through the local operation with its recipients, make its support obtainable and compare whole consequences before selecting the bounded attempt.

IS.3:4.1 - Recover the contribution and preserve a sufficient incumbent

Use the current IS.1 undertaking and IS.2 response when available. Recover the target practice, receiving result, intended performer, supported starting conditions, protection and remaining uncertainty. A provider may already have supplied an adequate strategy or arrangement; inspect its actual result before reconstructing it.

Ask what must change for the next use and what can remain. If only a reference has moved, repair the route. If the undertaking requires a person’s acquisition of a missing operation, obtain the appropriate demonstration, practice, feedback and development arrangement. If it requires the operation’s result without personal acquisition, compare qualified provision. A useful demonstration or explanation can support either choice without creating a learning obligation. If the target is unsuitable, another delivery of the same support is not an answer.

Choose a bounded receiving result for comparison. The alternatives need not have identical long-term effects, but their differences must remain visible. If one supplies a task result and another promises human mastery, do not rank them as interchangeable services without the recipient’s actual preference.

IS.3:4.2 - Generate alternatives by changing the obtaining way

Start with the competent current continuation, including its real support and burden. Then vary the operative relation that could change the result. Useful changes include:

  • make an existing ability usable by repairing access, time, equipment or authority;
  • obtain the decisive contribution from a qualified expert, service or AI;
  • develop the intended performer’s ability through an appropriate HCD arrangement;
  • make a tacit operation recoverable through an explanation, demonstration or usable tool;
  • conduct joint problem solving while knowledge is being developed;
  • choose a different target or reduce the promised use when the needed contribution is unavailable.

For each serious alternative, follow one case from input to useful result. Describe the critical action rather than its service label. “The coach asks the reviewer to compare the two source editions, identify the changed claim and explain its effect before offering feedback” specifies a contribution. “Provide coaching” does not.

Keep the actual subject Method intact. A learning designer chooses practice and feedback but does not invent an absent engineering criterion. An implementation facilitator can organize discussion while the participants’ qualified judgement supplies the subject answer. When the Method itself is missing, C.39 and the relevant profession supply its construction; the support strategy records that dependency honestly.

Do not manufacture alternatives whose outcomes cannot change the choice. One adequate way can suffice. More alternatives are useful when they reveal different result, dependence, resource or protection conditions.

IS.3:4.3 - Explain why each contribution could help

Connect the intended benefit to the action that could obtain it and the conditions on which it depends. A rehearsal may help a person recognize a stop condition; an expert inspecting the final result may instead supply recognition directly. Both can improve the immediate result, but only one is intended to develop the person’s own operation.

Ask what should be observable if the contribution is delivered and useful. Ask what would differ if it is unavailable, not performed, misunderstood or inappropriate to this context. Keep that explanation modest when its causal basis is uncertain. Existing professional knowledge can justify a bounded attempt without supplying a causal effect estimate.

Use A.3.1.MI:4.5 when the proposed adaptation requires the fuller delivery–mechanism–context comparison. That Method connects rival explanations, attainable inquiry and return to the affected result. Do not create a separate obligatory evaluation programme here.

Distinguish the support strategy from the target. Changing the time of a briefing or the availability of help can leave the target unchanged. Replacing its decision criterion, accepting a different input interpretation or removing a decisive comparison can change it. Preserve the proposed function and the evidence for its actual fulfillment separately; unchanged intended function does not prove unchanged Method identity.

IS.3:4.4 - Construct the local way with the people who will use it

Bring a representative input to the intended performer and receiver. Work through the critical operation together. Ask the performer to show where the explanation, input, tool or assistance enters. Ask the receiver to show what they must obtain to continue.

Use the conversation to change the construction. If an instruction requires information the performer cannot access, obtain that input, select a compatible operation or return the target condition to its owner. If the result arrives too late, change the timing or obtaining way. If the participant’s objection identifies a harmful consequence, compare a different arrangement rather than relabel the objection as resistance.

Make the first-use instruction concrete enough to act: how the relevant situation is recognized, what input is needed, what the performer does with it, how they inspect the result and when they seek help, return or stop. Put that instruction where the action occurs. A.3.2.DE supplies a fuller description-construction Method when the reusable explanation is the missing contribution.

Agree only the local variation that the target’s qualification permits. A simplified input display may preserve the needed comparison; a default answer that hides the relevant difference may not. When the equivalence is unresolved, retain a proposed variant and obtain subject and A.3.1.MV judgement. A convenient tool configuration cannot settle that question by itself.

IS.3:4.5 - Make performance and support jointly obtainable

For the selected serious alternatives, identify who performs each decisive operation and what they need at that moment. Check actual capability, usable means, access, timing and permission. A role title or available calendar does not establish these conditions.

Use C.32.MWA.PP when the alternatives differ in their configuration of performance and support: for example, shared specialist provision versus provision within each branch, or expert execution versus supported local performance. It supplies the comparison of the relevant structures, moved burden, simultaneous demand and actual dependencies, together with a selected configuration and its conditions. Use that result directly; a selected proposal still needs its effective relations. C.32.MWA clarifies the structures when needed, while A.15.8.MS supplies particular method-use support. Obtain OCE’s contributions when assignments, authority, workload or the organization itself must change. Continue here with the helping operations and recipient-facing explanation that the selected arrangement still needs.

Check simultaneous demand on scarce means. Count shared preparation once when its result serves several recipients; case-specific interpretation and help remain recurring work. Two independent demands cannot each consume the same expert hour. A joint review may instead supply current service and coaching in one contribution: count that shared time once, retain setup, recipient effort and additional instructional work, and qualify the service and learning results separately. A qualified AI or provider can replace a contribution when the receiving conditions permit it, not merely because it is cheaper.

Obtain the real commitments. A client must provide promised access; an employer must allocate the employee’s time; a volunteer must agree the contribution; a provider must accept the required response window. Where continuing work competes with change, OCE.11 supplies a bounded coexistence and recovery arrangement. Use it once, including its existing results.

If a required condition remains unavailable, compare a smaller slice, another provider, staggered work, another strategy or a revised promise. Preserve a hard protection or authorization condition as a condition, not a disadvantage that a larger benefit can buy away.

IS.3:4.6 - Compare complete alternatives at the decision’s scale

Use an adequate C.32.MWA.PP comparison directly. When a support choice remains, use the same current baseline, receiving use and relevant horizon. Include preparation, participant time, provider time, tools, coordination, inquiry, retained support, transition and displaced work where they can change the choice. Separate total effort from the demand on a particular scarce contributor.

First remove alternatives that cannot meet the required result or conditions. Then compare the remaining consequential differences: time to usable result, future dependence, human mastery where promised, error exposure, response delay, effort and adaptability. C.11.CRC supplies finite comparison; C.11 supplies the legitimate choice. Do not add unlike ordinal ratings into an unexplained total.

When results differ, make the trade-off explicit. A temporary expert service can be preferable for immediate continuity while a learning arrangement remains necessary for the promised later independence. Combine them only if the additional work and transition are actually supplied. The combination is not automatically the best of both.

Select further inquiry only when its attainable answer could reverse the strategy or permitted conclusion enough to justify its full burden. A bounded first attempt can be the comparison when its protection, recovery and receiving conditions are available. Retain alternatives with an honest limit when no useful comparison is obtainable.

IS.3:4.7 - Provide the bounded start and its return

Explain the selected strategy through the receiving case: what becomes possible, how each contribution helps, who supplies it and what changes the next action. Obtain the effective permissions, inputs and commitments before the work that depends on them begins.

Select the observations that can change the attempt. They might concern actual use, fit, burden, the intended learner’s contribution or a failed handover. Each has its own subject. A.3.1.MI keeps introduction work, later work, target adaptation, support adaptation and outside results separate.

Return the explained strategy and provided conditions, or the exact unsupported condition and surviving useful work. A strategy description can be complete while the attempt remains blocked by unavailable access. On an observed failure, return to the affected target, contribution or arrangement rather than repeat the entire strategy by default.

IS.3:5 - Archetypal Grounding

IS.3:5.1 - Compare complete first-week alternatives

This constructed extension of Harbor Design uses invented quantities to show the comparison. Six analysts are available. After the local diagnosis, suppose four have adequate current capability for the selected case family and two need a supported attempt with feedback. The intended first-week contribution is eight eligible package checks, with the two additional analysts beginning to acquire the missing comparison operation. In the current continuation, the four capable analysts can provide those eight checks at 0.20 hours each, using 1.6 hours already available for checking. The two analysts’ acquisition requires additional work.

All three serious alternatives require the same access repair, taking 1.5 technical hours, and a 0.5-hour managerial contribution that makes the review interval and receiving decision effective. These two hours are counted once in each alternative.

First-week alternativeScarce qualified provider timeOther direct time, including ordinary checkingComplete effort for the selected work
Full six-person workshop, followed by brief individual follow-up2 hours preparation + 2 hours teaching + 6 × 0.25 hours follow-up = 5.5 hours6 × 2 hours attendance + 6 × 0.25 hours follow-up participation + 2 common hours + 1.6 hours checking = 17.1 hours22.6 hours
Targeted workplace rehearsal for the two analysts1 hour preparation + 2 × 0.75 hours coached rehearsal = 2.5 hours2 × 0.75 hours participation + 2 common hours + 1.6 hours checking = 5.1 hours7.6 hours
Qualified expert supplies the checking contribution for eight cases8 × 0.20 hours = 1.6 hours2 common hours; the expert replaces the analysts’ checking contribution3.6 hours

These totals include the eight checks and the implementation work in the constructed alternatives. Other unchanged package work remains outside this comparison. Relative to the 1.6-hour checking continuation, the additional effort is 21, 6 and 2 hours respectively. Shared workshop time is counted separately for the instructor and each participant because they are different people occupying that interval; replaced checking work is not counted twice. No effect size or learning success is assumed from the arithmetic.

Suppose only three qualified support hours are available after existing commitments. The workshop is unavailable in that window. Targeted rehearsal fits the time limit; that inequality alone does not prove a workable schedule, but the two agreed 45-minute intervals and the preparation time provide one.

Expert execution supplies the immediate result at lower first-week effort. It does not supply the intended analysts’ acquired comparison operation. If the recipient requires only the eight immediate checks, that service can be selected. If developing the two analysts is part of the authorized promise, the service is not an equivalent cheaper answer.

The parties select targeted rehearsal for the bounded acquisition attempt and retain the existing qualified review condition until later performance supports another allocation. The actual rehearsal Method and assessment come from HCD and the subject provider. A.3.1.MI examines what happened; the table itself proves neither learning nor the target Method’s effectiveness.

IS.3:5.2 - Build the local instruction rather than paste a strategy name

The target requires identifying whether a source revision changes the support for a claim. The initial implementation instruction says:

Use the new review method before release.

A walkthrough shows that the analyst cannot find the source pair and that the technical lead receives only an unqualified approval flag. The local instruction is changed:

When a package cites a revised source, open the cited edition and the proposed current edition. Locate the passage supporting the claim. State whether the change affects that support, with the relevant passage. Send an unresolved or changed-support case to the technical lead before release recommendation. If either edition is unavailable, return the missing source instead of marking the claim checked.

The source owner supplies the two-edition route. The technical lead agrees the receiving response and timing. The learning provider uses representative pairs to teach the missing comparison where needed. The instruction is a local explanation of the selected operation, not evidence that anyone has performed it.

Now change the condition: a source is a continuously updated database with no recoverable historical edition. The instruction’s input condition fails. The helper returns the record-preservation and claim-support question to the source/subject owner. Inventing a timestamp from memory would not preserve the target operation.

IS.3:5.3 - Strong AI changes the obtaining way

Suppose a qualified AI service can perform the source comparison under the actual access and protection conditions, and its current evidence supports the required case family. One alternative lets it supply the comparison while the technical lead retains the receiving decision. Another uses it to prepare contrasts for the analysts’ practice.

The first can reduce demand for human comparison work without developing analyst mastery. The second can support learning only if the analysts perform the intended operation and obtain suitable feedback. The strategy choice follows the wanted result; it does not preserve a human coach merely because the earlier arrangement had one.

If the service loses access to a protected source, the alternative becomes unavailable for that case. A general capability claim about the AI does not restore the missing input.

IS.3:6 - Bias-Annotation

The strategy designer can mistake a familiar delivery format for an operative Method, or count the provider’s reduced cost while moving work to recipients. Recover the actual case and all consequential participants’ effort.

The arithmetic case favors a small initial slice because that is the stated receiving use. A later promise to qualify all six analysts would require its own complete work, support and evidence. Do not reuse the small-case total for that larger result.

IS.3:7 - Conformance Checklist

  • Each serious alternative explains the contribution and operation that could obtain the receiving result.
  • An adequate current strategy can be retained without forced novelty.
  • Target changes and changes to its introduction or support are distinguishable.
  • Local instructions preserve the decisive operation and its input and receiving conditions.
  • Qualified people, tools, access, time and permissions can be supplied together.
  • Comparison includes the complete additional work and keeps different promised results visible.
  • The selected attempt has an actual bounded start, protected conditions and decision-bearing observations.
  • An unavailable subject method or provider remains an explicit gap rather than a named box in a plan.

IS.3:8 - Common Anti-Patterns and How to Avoid Them

MisuseRepair
Select “training” or “facilitation” as though the name explains the intervention.Describe the actual operation, expected contribution and conditions.
Make a local adaptation by deleting the difficult target step.Obtain a qualified variant or repair the missing means.
Count shared preparation once but omit recurring local support.Follow each actual receiving use and count its demand.
Compare expert execution with learning as equivalent outputs.Preserve the different result and ask the legitimate recipient to choose.
Promise the same scarce hour to incompatible service and coaching demands, or count one joint contribution twice.Obtain a feasible allocation. Where one joint review serves both uses, count its time once and qualify each result separately; retain the additional preparation, recipient and instructional effort.
Use a workflow configuration as proof that the Method is enacted.Inspect the actual performance and its operative conditions through A.3.1.MI.

IS.3:9 - Consequences

The strategy becomes performable and revisable: its intended contribution, local work and actual provision can be examined separately. A smaller targeted arrangement or continuing expert service can displace an unnecessary broad programme.

The construction can expose a subject or organization question that support design cannot answer. Its useful result may therefore be an exact required contribution or a narrowed promise rather than a start.

IS.3:10 - Architectural Rationale

Implementation support combines interventions with different mechanisms and responsibilities. Describing the constituent operations and their receiving relations prevents a bundle of activities from standing in for a Method.

The same account distinguishes Method choice from provision. A good operation can be unavailable; a well-provided service can perform the wrong operation. Comparing both together explains why neither a strategy list nor a staffing chart is sufficient.

IS.3:11 - SoTA-Echoing

The implementation-support guide’s tailoring contribution motivates choosing the kind and intensity of help from the local need rather than a fixed schedule. This pattern develops that choice through actual operations, whole effort and receiving use.

C.32.MWA.PP supplies the developed comparison of performance and provision configurations, including moved burden and simultaneous demands. A.15.8.MS supplies particular method-use support. OCE.11 supplies coexistence with continuing service. A.3.1.MI:4.5 supplies interpretation of delivery, mechanism, adaptation and context. Their sufficient results are used directly; another round of equivalent design or inquiry adds no implementation benefit.

A ready target-specific strategy is the serious simpler alternative. Retain it when its actual conditions fit. The new construction is warranted when a changed input, provider, workload, target or promised result makes that fit consequentially uncertain. The examples show conditional arithmetic and operations, not an empirical superiority claim.

IS.3:12 - Relations

IS.1 supplies the undertaking and decision boundaries. IS.2 supplies the difficulty and needed contribution. A.3.1.MI performs and interprets the bounded attempt; IS.5 qualifies continuation or changed provision.

C.32.MWA.PP supplies the selected performance and provision configuration when alternative arrangements matter. A.3.2.DE and A.15.8.MS supply reusable explanations and method-use support. HCD supplies human acquisition and assessment. C.32.MWA connects relevant Method, Work, capability and support structures; OCE supplies actual organizational design or change when required. C.11/CRC govern legitimate choice and complete comparison, while C.11.DUA limits further inquiry to a worthwhile attainable contribution.
