MKT.4:5.3 - A criterion changes the choice of work
A constructed warehouse case starts with two scanners compared by nominal scan speed. Dispatch staff explain that the consequential difficulty is correcting identifiers before the vehicle leaves. The supplier first asks how that work is performed and which sample would expose a wrong identifier. This develops a previously omitted criterion. It does not establish that any scanner prevents the error.
The buyer already values dependable support. The supplier makes the proposed response, its scope and available provider inspectable and asks whether the same meaning will be used by the purchasing group. This strengthens an existing justified criterion. A competing device is faster in a demonstration; whether that matters depends on the actual dispatch work, including correction and downtime. When the buyer has already tested speed and found both devices adequate, another pitch about speed contributes nothing.
A separate requirement now defeats the proposed arrangement: the warehouse needs replacement consumables within twelve hours, while the supplier’s replenishment takes forty-eight. The customer explains that this is a protected continuity condition. Raising the importance of price or calling forty-eight hours “fast” does not resolve it. A proposed local stock becomes worth examining because the need concerns usable availability, rather than every delivery’s travel time.
Operations returns a conditional stock-and-replenishment arrangement with the included demand, reorder trigger, responsibility and storage conditions. The customer must supply suitable storage and an assigned stock check. Compare this whole option with an alternative provider that can deliver within twelve hours and with retaining the current system. If the customer can and chooses to supply the stock work, the option can proceed to actual commitments. If storage is unavailable, the arrangement remains unavailable: retain the other alternatives. Clarification selected a different provision question; the resulting proposal did not create its own prerequisites.
