OCE.10:4.2 - Distinguish explanations that imply different actions

Keep the smallest live set of rival explanations that would change the next move. The following are examples, not a closed taxonomy:

What the episode may showDiscriminating questionDifferent next action
The source cannot be inspected.Does the same participant perform correctly when access and the task conditions are supplied?Repair effective access through its owner.
The task is unfamiliar or a skill does not transfer. Is the difficulty still present under usable task conditions, and which representative later action is affected?Use a qualified human-target diagnosis and learning provider.
Contribution competes with commitments or recovery. What work and interruption burden occupy the necessary interval?Obtain an allocation or service/change decision, using OCE.11 where applicable.
Early challenge is punished or date-only compliance is rewarded. What actually follows a challenge, and does that consequence differ from the stated policy?Obtain an authorized change to the consequence and test its use.
The role or change conflicts with participants’ understanding and concerns. Can people explain the contribution and its limit, and which concern survives that explanation?Use inquiry, role dialogue or participant co-design; revise the design when the concern is valid.
A recurrent norm blocks help or challenge. How do people learn, recognize and repeat that norm in the relevant group?Change the demonstrated practice, recognition and support, then observe recurrence.

Current HCD.3 can help distinguish a same-person capability target from task, access and support causes. Use the appropriately qualified professional when a clinical judgement or learning intervention is actually needed. Preserve a surviving rival when evidence does not distinguish it, and withhold an unsupported unique-cause conclusion. Request a new contrast only when its attainable result could change the response or warranted claim enough to justify its whole burden, delay and displaced work. Include the effort of designing the inquiry; C.11.DUA supplies that appraisal when needed. If the response is robust across the rivals, the contrast cannot arrive in time, or its burden exceeds its contribution, finish the qualified response on the available basis.
