OCE.12:5.1 - PumpWorks: distributed help around a disputed trace
This constructed example uses the authorized probe, access, service coverage and recovery conditions stipulated in OCE.9.
Before preparing an inspection-evidence package, E27 and a peer from Electrical conduct a brief. They identify the source revisions needed to support the package’s claims, distinguish tool-proposed links from checked links, identify who can raise a question when a required source is missing, and confirm that Safety accepts or returns evidence while release requires a separate decision.
The first rehearsal exposes an ambiguous version cue. During a protected debrief, E27 shows the ambiguous labels for the old and current revisions. Using the displayed labels, the Electrical peer explains how a recipient could mistake the obsolete revision for the current one. They give the person responsible for the tool’s version display a repair request and arrange another observation.
Contributors supply the conditions for practice and later use:
| Needed contribution | What is supplied |
|---|---|
| Protected learning opportunity | The line manager obtains time for practice while preserving the agreed service coverage. |
| Difficult challenge practice | A qualified coach demonstrates the conversation, observes varied practice and gives feedback against stated criteria. |
| Acceptance boundary | Safety explains which evidence it can accept or return; release remains with the person authorized to decide it. |
| Incident effects on service and change work | The service liaison explains how an incident would affect service and when change work must be reduced. |
| Peer continuation | E27 and a capable peer retain a useful example and a way to obtain help for the next episode. |
In a later episode, the peer conducts the brief and raises a missing-source question without the initiating facilitator doing so. The person responsible for supplying the source investigates, and the group follows the agreed way of returning unsupported claims. The continuation works in that constructed episode with its retained support.
A professional capability assessment remains with the learning provider. Use OCE.9 to judge the bounded organization contribution and OCE.10 to examine recurrence and recognition. The episode does not establish enduring culture, general leadership capability or causal effectiveness.
