RHY.11:5.2 - Phrase accents need not follow every beat gesture

Nelson’s Solkattu Manual uses a three-beat gesture cycle with a three-syllable phrase at different rates. Consider its two-syllables-per-beat relation in beat units.

The gestures mark 0, 1 and 2, with the cycle restarting at 3. Syllables occur at 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5. The three-syllable phrases begin at 0 and 1.5. Thus the second phrase starts between gesture beats.

Suppose a learner already performs both contributions alone. In the first constructed joint attempt, they restart the phrase at every gesture and lose the three-syllable grouping. An aligned display shows the two phrase starts across one gesture cycle; a familiar demonstration preserves that relation. In a subsequent stipulated attempt, the learner keeps the three gesture beats, both phrase groups and the return at 3.

Retain that supported combination for this rate. Its result is joint coordination with the given support. Removing the display, changing rate or performing a longer passage changes the later question; it is not covered by the stipulated attempt.
