RHY.5:4.1 - Choose what the representation must let someone do
Take the needed discrimination from RHY.2 or identify it directly in the activity. Name the receiving reader, performer or computational process and the operation. Include its conditions: transient listening, rehearsal with replay, real-time partnering or offline comparison, for example.
Ask which result must be recovered. “Reproduce the attack positions” is narrower than “reproduce the drum phrase.” The latter can require articulation and a performer’s realization technique. A timing comparison may need a continuous envelope rather than either result.
