RHY.8:10 - Architectural Rationale
A rhythmic transformation operates on related contributions. Moving or enlarging a local phrase changes how it joins the whole, and the whole can depend on concurrent reference, support and articulation. The construction therefore closes over the relations needed by the receiving performance rather than ending at the transformed diagram.
The same mathematical operation can serve different work: rotation can compare shapes, generate an offbeat entry or ruin a required cue. Its meaning follows from the retained reference and intended action. This connects rhythmic construction to mathematical methods without reducing performance to their representations.
