RHY.8:11 - SoTA-Echoing

Nelson’s Solkattu Manual (2008), printed pp. 22–26 and 61–62, provides statement/gap construction, controlled expansion with adjustment of the setup, and larger shaped compositions. Adopt the reusable construction and its practice-specific phrase conditions. A duration identity alone supplies neither the whole tradition nor an acquired recitation technique.

Toussaint’s The Geometry of Musical Rhythm (2020), chapters 21 and 31, supplies evenly distributed seeds, phase-related transformations and constructions from performer allocation. These are productive alternatives to uncontrolled perturbation. Their geometric properties do not by themselves establish preference, stylistic suitability or training success.

Cha’s Takadimi critique, discussed in RHY.5–RHY.6, makes a transformation’s input completeness consequential: omitted sustain or silent reference positions can change the result. A timed demonstration, a score or an accompanying beat gesture can supply information absent from a bare syllable string.

The three cases above are transparent constructions from stipulated inputs. The combined method—retained relations, rhythmic construction, fit with the whole and a qualified return to performance—is a synthesis; empirical claims remain limited to their own sources and observations.
