RHY.8:4.5 - Return a variant that someone can enact and assess
Supply enough to reproduce the intended change: the passage or demonstration, reference, duration and articulation conventions, performing assignment, retained conditions and the result expected in the receiving activity. A short demonstrated variation may suffice; repeatable distributed use can need a score, sound example or code.
Distinguish what was calculated, what was demonstrated and what remains to be tried. A proposed variant is usable for a trial before a claim of reliable performance is supported. An observed local success retains its tempo, partner, support and other consequential conditions.
Stop when the needed variant and its next use are determined, or return the constraint preventing construction. Further novelty is useful only if it opens another wanted rhythmic action or performance possibility. When the intended use or a retained condition changes, recheck the affected construction and its fit with the passage; keep unaffected results.
