RMP.8:5.2 - Correct the same historical event
Several later accounts claim that a public protest prompted the decision to close a factory. They share one retrospective memoir. An authenticated record dates that decision before the protest.
RMP.8 rejects the protest as the cause of that earlier decision, retains its supported timing and leaves the cause unresolved. Possible effects of the protest on later implementation remain a different question.
A museum description actually attributed the decision to the protest. Its responsible editor receives the corrected decision chronology, the source reference and the unresolved causal limit. The correction does not silently turn into a claim about why or when the physical closure occurred. Protected source detail stays within its access terms; if a public summary cannot support independent authentication, it says so.
If the same dated evidence were supplied against the broader claim “the protest affected the closure,” the return would instead distinguish the defeated decision-causation component from still-open implementation effects. Matching the event changes the warranted revision.
