SOM.3:4.2 - Adjust in discernible increments

Produce a small increase, reduction or release within the technique’s ordinary limits. Observe its development, release and effect. Use the observed difference to choose the next increment.

Reduce the increment only while the performer can distinguish it and its effect still answers the working question. If it becomes indistinguishable, restore an available increment or change suitable support. If a reduction loses necessary contact or support, return to a working amount. The boundary of a useful reduction is part of the result.

Practise regulating while the effort develops. A report after release can help learning, but it does not show that adjustment was available during the action. When the report changes without the expected external effect, revisit the proposed connection rather than merely reducing the increment again.
