CB.11:4.3 - Compare feasible continuations and endings

Construct alternatives that answer the actual change. The following forms have different practical consequences:

AlternativeWhat must become true for it to work
Continue the present arrangementIts useful purpose and the threatened provision remain or are restored.
Reduce or change activitiesA smaller or different promise has willing contributors, adequate support and understandable effects on current users.
Pause for a stated period or conditionPeople know which services stop, who handles current obligations and what decision will restart or end the pause.
Transfer to another hostA willing capable receiver obtains the necessary access, authority, resources and means of work.
Separate into different arrangementsEach group can operate its chosen contribution, and any remaining shared resource or mandate has workable terms.
End the organised activityCurrent obligations are settled and worthwhile reusable contributions have an appropriate destination or a clear ending.

Compare benefit, burden, timing and transition loss with the people affected. Include retaining the arrangement when its difficulty can be repaired. Include ending when no worthwhile and feasible continuation is available. Growth, retention of every participant and a larger institution are not universal completion conditions.

Separate a promising alternative from a provided one. A person interested in taking over may still lack time, capability or resource permission. Use CB.7 to develop willing organising work and CB.9 to obtain support. If the needed contribution cannot be provided before the old one ends, reduce or suspend the dependent promise.

ECO.9 develops a change to economic rules through the practices people can actually perform, including entry, exit, transition burdens and wider dependencies. Use it when those rules are the obstacle. OCE.14 supplies a needed organisational revision.

When the effect is uncertain and reversal is practical, try a bounded continuation before committing the whole arrangement. Name the result and burden that will inform the decision, who can stop the trial and what remains available if it fails. A trial must fit the remaining support period.
