HCD.21:4.4 - Change membership with a reason and a usable return
Change membership when the current task needs a missing perspective, access or availability, or when a supported participation problem makes the present composition unsuitable. First distinguish that need from a defective task or missing help: another participant cannot repair an incorrect subject criterion merely by joining.
Before the change, preserve the current question, relevant grounds, supported result and unresolved choice in a form the receiving people may use. Transfer only the material needed for their next action. Give the newcomer enough preparation to question the current result; making them read every earlier message is often unnecessary.
Ask the group to compare the new contribution with its current reasoning. It can adopt it, adapt it, reject it with grounds or leave a precise question unresolved. For example, a newcomer proposes that the pressure reading came from another operating mode. The group locates the mode condition and checks whether the proposal changes which observation supports the model. Saying that the newcomer was heard leaves this use unanswered.
Recheck the changed person’s required learning actions and the remaining group’s capacity. Replacing a missing evidence source can restore the group task without restoring the absent learner’s practice. HCD.27 arranges that person’s later entry; HCD.26 helps the present group resume its actual work.
