OPS.21:5 - Archetypal Grounding
OPS.21:5.1 - Derive a repair aim before negotiating resources
This constructed cooperative has twelve identified customers whose equipment could usefully return to service this month. Five have booked; seven have received qualified offers, and the available nonoverlapping demand evidence supports three further acceptances. The expected demand is eight. All twelve needs are suitable for the cooperative’s standard repair; each customer retains the choice to accept or decline. Restoring useful equipment, with customer acceptance and no omitted quality work, is the receiving result.
The team considers eight, ten, twelve and fourteen accepted repairs. Eight is the current expectation and leaves four identified needs beyond the expected result. Ten would serve two more needs and fits the base provision calculated below. Twelve would meet the complete known opportunity if all customers accept and the work can be supported. Fourteen has neither identified demand nor a way to achieve additional useful work in this case. The team provisionally selects twelve as a conditional ambition, with prompt clarification of the seven offers as its first action. It retains eight as the forecast. If customers decline because repair no longer serves them, manufacturing a repair sale would defeat the purpose; reconsider the affected aim.
The base arrangement supplies 36 usable hours after protecting continuing service. Setup needs six hours and each standard repair three. Eight repairs need 30 hours, ten need 36, and twelve need 42. One obtainable extra block of eight hours would give 44. The ambition exposes a resource decision; it does not establish that the block is staffed or funded. The dated financial comparison shows that twelve repairs with this block would leave 20 less in closing cash than ten using the base provision. The cooperative decides that serving the two additional customers is worth that difference, provided the funding needed before customers pay is obtained and continuing service remains protected. This explicit judgement sustains the ambition; if the difference were not worthwhile, ten would be a reasoned alternative. The resource holder still has to authorize and provide the block before anyone promises the additional work. The connected repair example carries this result through provision, cash, changed work and assessment.
OPS.21:5.2 - Decline a misleading ranking
Two archive teams report requests completed per hour. One receives indexed digital material; the other also locates damaged, incompletely described records and assists the first team with difficult cases. Ranking their ratios as performance would conflate different work and hide the shared contribution.
They retain the quantities for understanding demand, compare like cases only where that comparison has a sound basis, and examine whether recipients obtained usable material within the relevant dates. The second team’s improvement from its own earlier condition remains interpretable only with changes in mix and assistance visible. They choose a concrete improvement in unresolved locating work, while monitoring an already adequate response condition without a higher quota.
