RHY.10:4.4 - Preserve reference through gaps and plan a return

Carry the reference through rests, sustained actions and unarticulated beats when later entry depends on it. Available means include familiar internal continuation, visible or felt movement, a partner’s ongoing part, an appropriately timed cue or a duration-bearing representation.

Keep reference information distinct from what happens between landmarks. A gesture on each beat does not say whether a sound continues, stops or changes between them. Recover that content through RHY.5–RHY.6 when needed.

Choose a recognizable re-entry point if the reference is lost. A missing attack need not require restarting the entire performance. The return must be achievable with the available preparation; otherwise simplify, wait for a later agreed point or stop under the practice’s conditions.
