• Source and target conventions, references and receiving operation are identified.
• The correspondence preserves the rhythmic distinctions that operation consumes, including duration and silence when attack positions alone do not suffice.
• Lost, added and unresolved distinctions receive a treatment the receiver can use.
• The target answer is interpreted back into the source question.
• An edited target yields a compatible revised source or an explicit conflict.
• Claims about an entire translation family have a basis beyond one successful example.
