C.40.CU:4 - Solution
Connect an examined response to a useful application, construct an arrangement that can supply its result, and preserve or develop what a later enactment needs. Return from use to inquiry only when the unresolved distinction changes the application. Return from reproduction to the affected constituent or support condition instead of restarting every inquiry.
C.40.CU:4.1 - Recover the response and the configuration that produced it
Keep the relevant material, preparation, task, interaction, observation and time window. Include prior learning, stored state and external interventions when they can change the interpretation. For a living construct or a person, use a permissible preparation and observation; a desired comparison does not authorize resetting, training or disturbing the subject.
Distinguish these questions:
- What response was observed, or is only proposed?
- What did the interaction make observable?
- What did it make possible or change?
- What result might someone obtain from that response?
A new readout can expose an existing response. Training can create a new capability. A fixture can make an action unnecessary. Another participant can supply the decisive action. A changed metric can improve a reported score while the trajectory is unchanged.
Keep the tested configuration recoverable without attributing everything it did to one constituent. A capability claim under A.2.2 names its holder and conditions. The surroundings need not be one System or one Agent. A model or recorded trace describes something; its availability does not make it a performer.
If the present material and known conditions already support the receiving use, continue with them. The method does not require a universal inventory of hidden capabilities.
C.40.CU:4.2 - Construct a worthwhile receiving use
Describe a result the response could help obtain, the receiver, use and conditions of acceptability. Start from the effect rather than the construct’s customary name or intended function. A weight can supply resistance, a surface can support alignment, and a response to a task can reveal something about the environment.
Try the connection between the available response and the needed intermediate result. If a gap appears, ask whether to change the problem, the construct, the method, the performer or the supporting conditions. C.40.CD develops that reciprocal change; C.39.RO makes a successful construction reusable.
Keep an exploratory question separate from an accepted application. A promising operation can justify a bounded further inquiry before anyone presently needs its result. Explain what the next attempt could make possible and what effort it displaces. C.11.DUA helps when the value of further inquiry is unsettled.
Use the receiving conditions to decide how much to establish. A fixed-route delivery use may need reliable delivery from a known configuration, not proof that the controller invented its route. A claim of adaptation to unfamiliar routes asks more. Preserve the narrower use while the stronger claim remains unresolved.
C.40.CU:4.3 - Build the contrast that can change the next move
When an uncertainty matters, identify the few materially different accounts or values still compatible with the response. Accounts can coexist: retained state and a live helper can both contribute. Seek a comparison that separates the distinction needed by the use, rather than an exhaustive taxonomy of mechanisms.
For a consequential causal question, C.28.CM constructs the candidate mechanisms and derives a differing implication. B.5.2 supplies hypothesis generation when a useful account is missing. Change the identified intervention while preserving, measuring or otherwise accounting for the other conditions on which the inference relies. State what each possible outcome would permit.
For a question about what an indication reveals, C.16.MR constructs the response relation, including preparation, interaction and registration. C.16.IR retains the different cases that fit it. C.16.RM chooses a change to the model, computation, subject conditions or measuring arrangement by what it would make distinguishable. Repeating a test on which the consequential alternatives agree adds no resolving power merely by being another run.
Keep two environmental questions separate. Changing the demand on a fixed arrangement can help infer what its environment supplies. Keeping the task fixed while changing the environment can compare two whole arrangements. The latter does not isolate one environmental property if other contributions also change.
The domain must supply any valid reset, intervention, calibration or observation used by the comparison. For an unavailable operation, obtain or develop it, use a sufficient existing bound, or retain the explicit limitation. Naming a “control condition” does not create it.
Return the outcome as a supported response, contradicted account, conditional relation or unresolved distinction, together with the material conditions. A negative result can reject the tested arrangement without establishing an intrinsic incapacity. Stop at the smallest supported conclusion that permits the receiving action.
C.40.CU:4.4 - Construct alternative ways of obtaining the useful result
Translate the qualified response into a candidate arrangement. State which contribution the construct supplies, what action obtains it, and which other participants and conditions make the whole possible. A function–bearer hypothesis and a claim that an action is available concern different relations; keep the one that the decision uses explicit.
Consider materially different ways, where they are feasible:
- Keep the construct and improve the performer’s operation or acquisition.
- Change the construct, tooling or environment so the response becomes usable.
- Obtain a missing contribution from another performer or service.
- Change the arrangement so the previously required operation disappears.
For example, an orientation guide may remove the need to select a part’s orientation during insertion. That is different from a robot performing the same selection. Guide design, setup, compatibility and wear remain contributions to the whole.
Choose a way of influencing the construct from evidence about how it responds. Direct physical constraint, specified commands, feedback, training and cooperation impose different requirements. An unfamiliar response is a reason to investigate an influence method, not evidence that the construct can understand a goal or consent. Actions affecting people, animals or controlled resources retain their applicable authorization and domain safeguards.
Use C.32 and C.32.P2S when architecture alternatives and their realization are the live question. Use C.38 to make the candidate ways comparable for the same result, use, horizon and protected conditions, then C.11 for choice. Include displaced work, setup, maintenance, recovery and capability consequences where they can reverse that choice. A low cost inside the performer can coexist with a high cost of preparing its surroundings.
Follow consequential reciprocal changes. Support can alter later task selection, learning, stored traces and other participants’ behavior. A trace left for a later performer has an interpretation and a lifetime; a cue that is correct now can become misleading after the situation changes. Compare or refresh these conditions at the times that the intended use consumes them.
Select a candidate only within its evidence and authority. A proposed environment, trained performer or fallback is not already available merely because the comparison requires it.
C.40.CU:4.5 - Realize and examine the whole under the receiving conditions
Start at the first unsupported contribution of the chosen way. The relevant engineering, research, learning or organizational Method supplies that contribution. Carry its result into the next operation with its meaning and conditions intact.
Make the critical joins explicit. What does the receiver of a probe result treat as established? What does the designer change because of it? What must the operator recognize before using the resulting arrangement? Which result satisfies the original receiving need? B.1.5 governs composition; B.1.5.EW recovers how the constituent actions perform the encompassing work.
Examine a representative use against the same result conditions used to choose the arrangement. A derivation can establish a model-conditional result; a performed trial supplies observations within its actual conditions. Keep these forms of support distinct. If the result is partial, retain the qualified part and name the unmet condition.
When the whole fails, locate the first consequential mismatch: response qualification, architecture, realization, joining, performer capability, access or changed support. Repair that contribution and reuse the rest where its conditions still hold. A changed deadline can require a different operation; it need not reopen the origin of an already qualified response.
If reliance includes a transition between realizations, examine the transition as well as the endpoints. The running arrangement may need to detect the trigger, change realization and preserve the required result during the transient. A designer’s possession of two alternatives does not establish that runtime ability. Use A.15.8 when configuration or recovery reliance is the actual question.
C.40.CU:4.6 - Make the use reproducible for another performer or occasion
Recover what made the successful enactment possible: preparation, inputs, operative steps, supporting artifacts or people, recognition conditions, acceptance basis and stops. Preserve the needed intermediate meanings, not just the final output.
Decide which contributions the receiver must perform and which can remain obtainable from elsewhere. Restore access or activation when that is sufficient; develop capability when the receiver cannot perform a necessary operation. E.23.CAE distinguishes those gaps under grounded capability claims, E.23.CDI develops the named capability, and C.36.RP arranges acquisition, provision and continuing access.
Use a receiving attempt that can reveal the uncertain transfer. A person who copied a demonstration may still be unable to adapt its critical step. Ask the receiver to use the method under the changed condition that matters, with the support the intended arrangement actually permits. If the helper supplied the decision, the supported configuration’s success remains useful, but does not establish the receiver’s independent capability.
For shared terms, test a consequential action on the common object. Ask participants to classify or act on the same borderline case, state what they expect to happen, and inspect the difference. Repair the operative distinction or action when identical words hide different uses. Agreement in wording alone does not establish common understanding.
Retain an obtainable explanation, executable material or demonstration suited to that receiver. A complete account does not require every participant to internalize every constituent operation. It does require the arrangement to supply them when they are needed.
C.40.CU:4.7 - Retain the qualified use and renew it when its conditions change
Keep the useful construction, its supported scope and the means needed for another enactment. If a disturbance can reveal a different retained state or recovery behavior, qualify that behavior over the window the use needs. Normal appearance now is not evidence of indefinite retention or recovery after every disturbance.
A new input, environment, performer, criterion or time window can reopen a particular connection. Use B.1.5.RS when a constituent is replaced across several encompassing uses. Use C.40.CD when the result opens a new problem or requires a changed obtaining way. Keep the previous bounded application where it remains supported.
End the current development when the selected receiving use is supplied, when a sufficient conditional result serves the assignment, or when no attainable next distinction or construction warrants its burden. State which of these outcomes has been reached. A promising clue can be retained without claiming a realized application.
C.40.CU:4.8 - Separate recognition from assurance
Recognition needs a concrete response, a possible useful difference and one uncertainty or connection that changes the next move. A modest proposed application can begin there.
A reliance claim additionally needs support for the actual holder or configuration, obtaining conditions, interpretation, receiving result and material limitations. The receiving domain determines the necessary trials, safety, ethics, authorization and operating evidence. This pattern neither certifies a construct nor establishes intelligence, sentience, clinical efficacy or universal independence from assistance.
