Human Capability Development Principles Framework Readme
Practical entries
Human Capability Development connects what a person needs to contribute in later work with a feasible way to develop that contribution and evidence of what the person can now do. Tools, AI and providers can support the work; their contribution must remain visible when interpreting the person’s performance. Instructional material can also be evaluated and repaired without making a claim about a particular person’s development.
The selected examples below show how results from several methods work together. They are not a catalogue, a coverage boundary or stages to complete for every question. If no example matches your question, use the Table of Contents’ working questions to enter the smallest relevant pattern. For a question outside human capability development, follow Framework Boundary and Refresh to the named domain owner. Use an adequate existing result where it fits; return only to the question left open by a missing input or changed condition. The Table of Contents gives direct access to HCD.1–HCD.28 and nested HCD.6.1 in this twenty-nine-pattern edition.
You can ask an assisting agent to explain or apply these methods in the language of your work, without framework jargon, while preserving the distinctions needed for the question.
HCD-PRODUCT - Build a learning offer before the learners are known
Situation: An author has a future audience and intended work, but topics, materials, practice and promised support do not yet form an attainable product.
Question: What complete learning route can this audience use, and which subject, material or supply contribution is missing?
First useful result or blocker: Comparable whole-product variants for a bounded task family, with entry branches, complete burdens and an exact missing contribution where a connection fails.
Start with: HCD.28 - Construct and Revise a Whole Learning Product for a Future Audience. Its solution explains how to join the contributions; the links below locate the suppliers.
Stop or return: Stop with the construction needed for the design or offer decision. Return a missing subject method to its domain owner, a material defect to HCD.19, and unavailable help to HCD.7/.8. When an individual learner becomes known, return usable product variants and requirements to HCD.2 for personal comparison.
Future diagnosticians may calculate an indicator correctly while choosing the wrong model. HCD.28 first checks whether the subject selection criterion is available, implicit in expert action or unresolved. With an adequate subject basis, HCD.5/.6 construct the learning mechanism and task; HCD.7/.8 establish actual assistance. HCD.20 compares individual and group options, and HCD.22 constructs the selected shared task. None of these links makes the group option obligatory. The constructed whole-product application shows how the complete load can change the design.
HCD-GROUP - Make joint activity develop the intended personal contribution
Situation: A shared answer is good, but it is unclear what each participant did, or the proposed interaction cannot fit the available people, time and help.
Question: Which contributions make learning together useful, and how can the task elicit them under a feasible arrangement?
First useful result or blocker: A justified individual or group option and, when needed, a shared task with usable personal actions, material transfers, feedback and recovery.
Start with: HCD.20 - Compose and Compare Arrangements for Individual and Group Learning when the configuration is unsettled; enter HCD.22 - Design Shared Learning Tasks with Necessary Individual Contributions directly when the target and arrangement constraints already exist.
Stop or return: Stop when the comparison or task changes the next design decision. Return missing qualified help to HCD.7/.8 and a disconnected product route to HCD.28. Personal performance, the common product, team capability and the material’s contribution require their respective observations.
A cohort of 24 need not discuss as one group. Two three-minute contributions each plus six minutes of reconciliation give an initial bound of four people in thirty minutes, excluding separate help. The worked construction adds six minutes of qualified help per group and staggers the starts, allowing two mentors to make all six visits before the dependent personal actions. HCD.20 shows the participant and mentor timeline and the changed burden. At a shared instrument, meaningful observation and operator turns produce different constraints; the discussion formula does not determine that group size.
To establish or change actual membership and contact, use HCD.21. To develop understanding through reasons, use HCD.23; for evaluative judgement and revision, use HCD.24; for a relation that must reach another project, use HCD.25. A group whose work has drifted can use HCD.26, while incompatible preparation, material transfers or return windows lead to HCD.27. Each method returns the actual contribution and its limits to the arrangement.
HCD-FEASIBLE - Make a development proposal fit the work and available support
Situation: A development proposal contains useful topics and exercises, but its complete tasks, learner effort and provider contribution have not been shown to fit together.
Question: What can be offered within the available time and support while preserving the intended contribution to later work?
First useful result or blocker: A comparable, feasible arrangement or task fragment; otherwise the target, resource or support constraint that prevents the comparison.
Start with: HCD.2 - Compose and Compare Human Capability-Development Programmes for Later Work for one known person with compatible work, target and starting evidence. For an author with a future audience, start directly with HCD.28; its product variants can later supply the personal comparison.
Stop or return: Stop with the comparison needed for the present decision. Return a missing support contribution to its provider, a changed intended outcome to its owner, or a non-training cause to the practice that can address it. Programme comparison does not authorize launch.
- Establish whose contribution the proposal concerns. For one person, HCD.1 - Derive Human Capability Demand from Representative Later Work supplies the required contribution and its basis. HCD.3 - Diagnose Whether a Capability, Misconception, or Behaviour Limits Work distinguishes a human development target from a tool, access, assignment or other limitation. Where simultaneous work competes for development effort, HCD.4 - Architect a Balanced Human Capability Profile Across Simultaneous Work supplies the priorities and contributions to protect. HCD.2 consumes those results in comparing feasible alternatives. For a future audience whose individual learners are not yet known, it returns the design question and available fragments to HCD.28. A product variant returns to HCD.2 only with the named person’s compatible starting evidence, work, support and participation conditions.
- Make the alternatives comparable through complete tasks. In the constructed programme-design application, three compositions each use 340 learner hours over 34 weeks. A change from ten to six hours per week leaves 204 hours: each original proposal exceeds the allowance by 136 hours. HCD.2 asks what work, practice and evidence would be removed or replaced. Merely multiplying allocations by 0.6 does not show that the promised outcomes survive.
- Construct the missing development contribution. Retain the detailed task fragment already available for one option and construct the smallest comparable fragment for another, using the same intended output and audience assumptions. HCD.5 - Select Human Capability-Development Methods selects how to develop the target action from the starting evidence, or proposes conditional choices from stated entry assumptions for a future audience; HCD.6 - Design Representative Practice Tasks turns that choice into a whole task, criterion, permitted help and relevant variation. If the learner cannot yet notice a distinction required by the task, HCD.6.1 - Help a Learner Discern a Needed Distinction in Practice helps design an accessible contrast and use the learner’s response to guide the next attempt. Return the noticed distinction to the whole task; recognizing it does not establish the ability to perform that task. These results let HCD.2 compare what the options actually provide.
- Test the support needed at the time of use. HCD.7 - Arrange Providers, Access, Tools, and AI Support for Human Capability Development uses those tasks to establish actual feedback, assessment, access and capacity. The example’s 240 teaching hours divided among twelve participants is a planning allocation, not twenty hours of individual contact each. Doubling participants with unchanged individual checking demand doubles that checking work. HCD.8 - Obtain or Build Missing Human Capability-Development Support with Bounded Recursion enters only for a missing contribution that must be obtained or built. Return its cost and operating limits to the comparison.
A useful substitution may emerge from this fragment comparison. It does not yet establish that a complete 204-hour programme exists. Changing the intended outcome is another possible decision, which must be explicit before comparing a narrower offer.
HCD-EVIDENCE - Decide what a successful attempt permits you to rely on
Situation: A learner reaches a correct answer after help, or succeeds in familiar work, and someone needs to decide what this permits them to rely on in later work.
Question: Which contribution is supported, under what conditions, and what part of development should change?
First useful result or blocker: A bounded performance conclusion and, when needed, a targeted change to the task or assistance; an unresolved transfer, delay or support question remains separate.
Start with: HCD.11 - Assess Human Performance in Representative Work, using the attempt and its actual conditions. If practice is being conducted, HCD.9 - Perform Deliberate Practice with Feedback preserves the first attempt, supplied help, feedback, correction and retry that assessment needs.
Stop or return: Stop when the available evidence is sufficient for the intended reliance or local revision. Obtain another observation only for a consequential unresolved claim whose evidence can be obtained at worthwhile cost.
- Separate the successful product from the person’s contribution. In the constructed APP-HCD-02, a teacher initially helps Learner-L17 reject a release proposal supported by the wrong firmware evidence. That correction is assisted. Two later fresh attempts show L17 detecting the mismatch before a teacher or AI cue, supporting a narrower independent configuration-checking conclusion.
- Change the condition relevant to the next use. HCD.12 - Test Transfer to Unfamiliar Work or Learning from a New Source uses unfamiliar work when transfer matters. A compatible release case requires two hours per change plus one hour per batch of at most four changes. Ten changes need
20 + 3 = 23hours and fit a 24-hour allowance. At 22 hours, ten no longer fit; nine need18 + 3 = 21. L17’s corrected nine-change answer after feedback supports helped resource adaptation while preserving the earlier configuration result. - Repair the development contribution exposed by that result. HCD.14 - Revise the Human Capability-Development Arrangement from Evidence can replace a cue-led resource exercise with cases requiring both a justified proposal and a justified refusal. It need not discard sound arithmetic or configuration practice. HCD.10 - Choose Whether and How to Vary, Space, Interleave, or Progress Practice uses the attempt history to select a consequential variation, separated return, competing task or assistance change; these are different choices, not a fixed progression.
- Open a delay or support question only when it affects reliance. HCD.13 - Test Human Capability Retention and Dependence on Tools or Other Support compares performance after a delay and under changed support with suitable earlier conditions. One delayed attempt with AI also removed cannot isolate the effect of delay from the effect of removing AI. Keep intervening practice and remaining tools visible. An immediate local repair need not wait for this separate investigation.
HCD-CONTINUATION - Keep a useful arrangement while its conditions change
Situation: Development already has useful results, but later work, support or a claim about a development method changes.
Question: What should continue for this person, and does the change also affect the method repertoire or a group’s development practice?
First useful result or blocker: A continuing arrangement for the person, a decision to retain, revise or stop a specified use of a development method, or a decision about a specified cultural relation. Each uses evidence appropriate to its own question.
Start with: HCD.15 - Sustain Continuing Human Capability Development for the person’s continuing development, using current work and evidence, including an applicable HCD.14 revision. Open a repertoire or culture question only when that is the affected object.
Stop or return: Continue what remains adequate. Return a missing allocation to its owner; retain an unresolved comparison when its proposed investigation is not feasible. A change to one use does not by itself establish a population-wide effect.
- Locate what changed and what can be retained. The constructed APP-HCD-03 preserves practice in tracing a release claim to its supporting evidence and referring safety or maintenance questions to the relevant specialist, while proposing a replacement for one cue-led correction exercise. HCD.15 uses that result to specify relevant cases, help, responsible providers and reopening conditions for the person. Until the needed learner and provider time is allocated, the affected practice cannot be arranged; the useful prior result remains available.
- Carry evidence to the method claim only when it fits. HCD.16 - Keep Human Capability-Development Method Claims Current can use compatible observations from continuing development to retain a supported use or narrow a claim. In the example, retain the method for practising evidence tracing and specialist referral through attempts, feedback, correction and retry. The available result supports performance with help; its contribution to independent learning remains unresolved. The proposed comparison needs three learner hours and two provider hours; only half a provider hour is available. Its useful return is the narrower claim and unresolved comparison. A later resource window may make the probe worthwhile; selecting it supplies no result.
- Distinguish a group’s continuation question. HCD.17 - Deliberately Continue and Change Human Capability-Development Culture asks about the specified transmission, receiving use, recognition or retention of practice within a population. Its example observes receiving trainers using a teaching sequence after combined preparation and coaching. Reducing trainer coaching changes that basis: a feasible, authorized comparison can support a branch proposal, while the trainers’ later use and the learners’ performance remain separate observations. The person’s performance conclusion alone does not answer this cultural question.
HCD-MATERIAL - Find what instructional material supports and what to repair
Situation: An explanation, worksheet or learning route is meant to support a reader’s task, but a correct reader answer may have depended on prior knowledge or help.
Question: What did the material supply, what remains missing, and which repair would change its intended use?
First useful result or blocker: A compatible evaluation specification, or a supported diagnosis of the material’s contribution, limiting defect and repair reach.
Start with: HCD.19 - Evaluate Instructional Material through Representative Reader Work and Diagnose Its Repair when a compatible specification exists. Otherwise use HCD.18 - Select or Construct a Characterization and Evaluation Specification for Instructional Material to connect the promised task, audience, permitted help, criteria and evidence to the intended decision.
Stop or return: Stop with the supported use or repair conclusion and any evidence gap that limits it. Repair the affected material through E.23; use human-performance methods only for a claim about the person’s contribution or learning.
- Use the specification to decide what must be inspected. The instructional-material evaluation profile explains how HCD.18 and HCD.19 work together. Select properties that can change the use or repair decision; a local false relation does not require evaluating an entire course.
- Distinguish material contribution from reader repair. In its Time-use S1 case, an uninterrupted example gives the same value for active effort and elapsed turnaround, so it cannot distinguish the two rules. A prepared reader separates them correctly using prior knowledge. HCD.19 preserves that fact rather than crediting the missing distinction to the material.
- Repair the relation and inspect its affected use. The revised material distinguishes the quantities, changes the columns, adds interruption and population conditions, and supports a changed two-person comparison of three consumed person-hours with four available person-hours. This supports the bounded repair and use, not a novice-learning claim.
- Return remaining requirements at their actual reach. The full specification still requires a concurrent-person example, an inspected task and key, and suitable explanatory and feedback evidence. Keep these gaps visible without withholding the narrower supported repair. Obtain additional reader work only when its result can change the decision enough to warrant its burden.
