Management.Reference:1 - The work this Suite serves
Management concerns choosing and sustaining the direction, commitments and provision of a collective undertaking, and changing them when the results or conditions warrant it. The undertaking may be a company, public service, professional practice, temporary collaboration or voluntary community. Its participants can have different purposes and decision rights. A shared employer is unnecessary; an actual basis for making and relying on a contribution is necessary.
Use this Suite when a worthwhile direction, an accepted promise, available means and ongoing work do not yet fit together. It helps obtain a supported commitment and its workable continuation: what can be done, for whom, by which contributions, with which authority and resources, and what must be reconsidered if a consequential condition changes. Retaining a sufficient arrangement, narrowing a promise or declining it can be useful results.
When an organization or another established system is the target, management’s engineering contribution concerns that system: practitioners arrange and change the Work, authority, resources and commitments through which it can function. A changed allocation that establishes effective access or a new work commitment changes the system’s state even if its organization chart remains the same. A voluntary community or temporary collaboration requires its own account of the system and whole, if any, that is being changed. System-level design, realization and qualification therefore remain relevant to ongoing management as well as to reorganization. OCE develops the deliberate construction of organizational relations and capability; it does not replace the other management fields or make every management use an OCE project. This organizational specialization is described by the Management Suite. The broader Engineering edition connects to it without repeating OCE in its direct roster.
The intended readers are people and capable assisting agents who make, support or examine management decisions. Relevant professional knowledge and powers remain necessary for the acts that require them. A practitioner can obtain a specialist result instead of learning to produce it. Follow Using FPF (Using FPF and its DPF Suites) to find the needed contribution and read its full pattern, including its conditions and worked cases.
Management.Reference:2 - Constituent fields and their contributions
The Suite connects the following twelve DPFs. Each develops knowledge and reusable practices for a particular management subject. The entry patterns below show how their results participate in the larger work; they are selected entries, not a required sequence.
| Constituent field | Its own question and useful entry | Connection to the management whole |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy (STR) — STR | Which contribution and direction are worth pursuing, and which commitments remain defensible? STR.8, STR.11 and STR.16 connect capability, choices and a feasible portfolio. | Direction selects the work worth supporting. Operating, financial and participation conditions can defeat an attractive portfolio or change its scope. |
| Operations Management (OPS) — OPS | What can ongoing work admit, continue and deliver under actual demand and capacity? OPS.10, OPS.13 and OPS.22 qualify capability, agree service and interpret performance. | Its capacity and service results constrain promises; actual delivery and unresolved obligations return to the responsible management decision. |
| Organization Administration (ADM) — ADM | Which institutional condition must a participant actually receive, and under which rules? ADM.8, ADM.9 and ADM.11 connect permission, usable provision and providers. | A selected undertaking needs effective access, payments and other enabling services at the required time. A record of provision can be insufficient for the participant’s work. |
| Corporate Governance (CGOV) — CGOV | Which corporate powers, rights and duties govern the act? CGOV.3, CGOV.11 and CGOV.13 connect authority, decision and accountable response. | Corporate undertakings need acts made by eligible participants under applicable rules. This is the corporate branch; a voluntary community uses its own mandate. |
| Management Accounting (MA) — MA | How do work, resources, money and performance accounts relate for this use? MA.1, MA.4 and MA.9 construct, reconcile and examine the use of those accounts. | Resource and cost relationships connect operating plans to financial choices. Their observed use can reveal incentives or displaced burdens that require a different management response. |
| Corporate Finance (FIN) — FIN | Which investments, funding, liquidity and exposures can the corporation support? FIN.2, FIN.9 and FIN.16 supply a dated funding account, an allocation comparison and a financial return to decision. | Value and funding conditions constrain corporate commitments. The same money, dates and outstanding obligations must survive the joins to strategy and operations. |
| Marketing (MKT) — MKT | Which customer result and offer are useful, obtainable and commercially continuable? MKT.1, MKT.11 and MKT.14 connect customer differences, promises and programmes. | Customer evidence can change direction; provider capability and terms limit the offer; actual customer use can reopen the promise or commercial model. |
| Customization and Productization Management (CUST) — CUST | Which client differences fit an existing offering, need a local answer or a changed family, or should be declined? CUST.1 connects client work, repeatable offerings and continuing obligations; CUST.3 constructs an offering family and CUST.8 changes it while existing obligations continue. | Local application can change the general offering, its permitted variations and its provision. Those changes constrain promises, operating capacity and the burden of maintaining the offering. |
| Engineering Asset Management (EAM) — EAM | What value should be obtained through engineered assets over time? EAM.10, EAM.11 and EAM.12 connect portfolio choices, intervention timing and qualified specialist results. | Asset options compete for funding and operational availability. Service need and technical evidence constrain the management choice; engineering and maintenance supply their own results. |
| Leadership (LDR) — LDR | How can the needed joint contributions be obtained, agreed and carried into work? LDR.1, LDR.2 and LDR.4 connect capable help, feasible agreement and a proposal’s passage to decision and first use. | A proposal becomes usable through actual contributions and legitimate decisions. A title or an attractive plan leaves that work unanswered. |
| Community Management (CB) — CB | How can useful participation, relationships and common contributions be arranged and sustained? CB.7, CB.9 and CB.13 connect organising, provision and shared mandates. | Community purposes and voluntary terms constrain commitments and support. Participants’ experience can require changes in the offer, burden, representation or continuation. |
| Organization Change Engineering (OCE) — OCE | Which organizational relations and capability need deliberate construction or change? OCE.3, OCE.4 and OCE.9 connect concepts, contribution architecture and realization. | Specialization, information, decision rights, participation and support determine which commitments can be met. Their consequences can reopen the arrangement or the commitment. |
Corporate Governance and Corporate Finance retain their corporate subject and institutional prerequisites. Other undertakings use the applicable financial and governing practices for their setting. Membership of the Suite does not make every constituent necessary in every case.
Community Management includes valued relationships, mutual help and enjoyable shared activity. Commercial return is only one possible concern. Independent people carrying a practice need not form a managed community or delegate any common authority. Use CB for an actual participation or common-work question; the wider cultural question belongs to FPF C.36.RP.
Management.Reference:3 - What makes these fields a whole
The common subject is the management of an undertaking through compatible direction, commitments, provision and performance. Its constituent contributions constrain the same acts and consequences. A customer promise sets work requirements; an operating answer tests whether those requirements can be met; a resource account explains the demand and payments; a governing act supplies the required authority. A strategic comparison must retain those conditions when selecting the undertaking. The relationships run back as well: a failed service, changed resource condition or refused contribution can require a different promise or direction.
For example, MKT.11 carries an offer into a real supply answer and returns an unsupported promise for revision. OPS.13 preserves existing obligations while comparing scope, time or resource changes. MA.1 explains the resource consumption that both uses require; FIN.2 establishes the corporation’s dated funding position where that question is live. CGOV.11 makes the corporate decision when its conditions apply, while CB.13 supplies a community mandate. LDR.2 obtains responses to the same complete proposal and returns changed contributions to the parties affected by them. These are connections between complete Methods, with different results and sources of authority.
Customization and Productization Management (CUST) connects differences encountered in client work to a maintainable local answer or repeatable offering. A successful local result can depend on exceptional expertise, restricted material or a configuration that cannot be supported elsewhere. CUST.1 explains the connected Method; CUST.2–CUST.8 are also directly usable when only their particular result is missing.
An offering family constructed through CUST.3 constrains which variations MKT.11 may promise. A qualified delivery arrangement from CUST.6 supplies OPS.13 with its demand on performers, partners and support. CUST.7 uses the full resource and economic comparison of MA.8 to examine growth in demand and variety, including adaptation and continuing maintenance. These consequences can require a different family or a narrower promise. CUST.8 connects a changed general offering to the transitions still owed to existing clients. A successful new configuration does not erase those obligations.
At the portfolio scale, STR.16 constructs shared or separate support while preserving the purposes and evidence of each branch. STR.8 supplies result dependencies, STR.14 reconciles competing work across horizons, and STR.11 carries the supported comparison into an authorized commitment. For an asset-dependent undertaking, EAM.12 receives the specialist results needed for the asset answer; it returns a missing engineering, operating or financial premise to its supplier.
These connected Methods help practitioners construct and revise jointly supportable management commitments. A good direction, a valid budget and an achievable local schedule can still be incompatible when they rely on the same unavailable resource, an unmade decision or a participant who has not agreed. Examining the whole means retaining these shared conditions and their consequences through the actual decision.
The whole also connects knowledge to practice. Knowledge of demand, resource consumption, authority, incentives and participation informs the construction and criticism of commitments. Results of practice can expose a bad assumption, an inappropriate measure or a missing condition. MA.9 develops that return for the use of accounting information; OPS.22 for operating performance; STR.12 for strategic premises; and CB.10 for participation. A changed observation first reopens the claim it bears on. A general causal conclusion needs the corresponding inquiry and evidence.
This Suite uses those existing full Methods for the connections it describes. This Architectural Reference helps a reader find and understand their joint use; the linked patterns supply the operations, cases and limits needed to perform it.
Management.Reference:3.1 - Organizational construction and maintenance use
Management includes constructing and changing organizational arrangements as well as directing work through adequate existing ones. OCE develops this constituent subject and has its full home in the Management Suite. Its organizational target connects the construction to direction, commitments, authority, provision and performance. An asset-dependent undertaking also needs maintenance policy and programme work; it obtains the full MNT Methods through Engineering (Engineering.Reference:0). This use retains the maintenance field’s own failure, condition and functioning questions.
Organizational construction. OCE connects knowledge of specialization, coordination, information, incentives and participation to the deliberate construction of organizational relations and capability. OCE.3 and OCE.4 construct interacting organization choices, rather than accepting an organization chart as the complete answer. OCE.5 and OCE.6 distinguish established positions from assignments and other enabling relations. OCE.9 realizes a bounded contribution; OCE.13 and OCE.14 return consequences to the choice of relations.
Those relations determine which management commitments can be made and sustained. A direction requiring independent acceptance needs an arrangement that supports independent judgement. A promise requiring the same specialist for incompatible work needs a different allocation, support or promise. Changed demand, authority or participation can reopen the organization design; the design’s consequences can reopen direction and provision. Together with Strategy, Operations, Administration, Governance and Leadership, this contribution supports jointly feasible commitments rather than a set of separately plausible plans.
Engineering uses the same organizational knowledge and constructions to obtain functioning systems: OCE.7 coordinates organization and product or service architectures, while OCE.9 and OCE.11 connect realization to the conditions of use and continuing service. These contributions remain engineering through their organizational specialization in Management; this does not require a second direct inclusion of OCE in the broader Engineering edition. OCE does not cover all Organization Development, nor does a management task require organizational redesign whenever it uses this Suite.
Maintenance. MNT’s subject is preserving or restoring required functioning, especially for physical and cyber-physical equipment in use. Maintenance engineering and maintenance management have distinct results within this connected field. The technical failure account constrains the policy and response; support, access and service conditions constrain which technically plausible response can be performed.
MNT.2 makes this connection within policy construction. A useful warning must leave time for detection, interpretation, support, access and intervention. MNT.5 and MNT.7 establish the support and operating arrangement needed by that response. MNT.8–MNT.11 retain separate protection, intervention, functioning and resumed-use results. MNT.12 and MNT.13 connect actual configuration and comparable failure history to choices about policy, support or programme. A recurring support delay calls for a different response from a failure mechanism that the task cannot address.
In management work, this field connects the operating promise to maintenance demands, obtainable provision and a programme that can change on evidence. It receives qualified capacity from Operations and relevant resource, funding and administrative results from their own practices. Its maintenance knowledge prevents an apparently affordable programme from promising unsupported availability. In Engineering, that same knowledge and practice constrain maintainability, realization and restored functioning; evidence from use can reopen the design. Neither relationship depends on every undertaking having equipment to maintain.
Maintenance does not absorb Engineering Asset Management. For a single pump, selecting a policy or intervention to preserve required functioning is a maintenance result. Comparing continued use, renewal, replacement, repurposing or withdrawal by value, costs, risks and service effects is an asset-management result. Conversely, coordinating a fleet maintenance programme remains MNT.13. Scale, the word replacement and the practitioner’s job title do not decide the subject; one case can require both contributions.
OCE is a constituent because constructing organizational relations and capability participates in the same organizational subject as direction, commitments, authority and provision. MNT’s whole subject instead connects failure and condition knowledge to maintaining required functioning. Keeping MNT in Engineering, with its full Methods available to management practitioners, preserves every policy, support and programme connection described here. The manager can perform a maintenance Method with the required capability; using an external discipline does not mean outsourcing the work. Dividing either complete repertoire into separate engineering and management products would obscure the interactions within OCE’s organization choices and MNT’s policy and response.
The cross-Suite arrangement requires users to preserve the conditions on both contributions. A changed organizational premise can affect both system realization and management commitments; a changed maintenance premise can affect both functioning and the service programme. Each Suite explains its own receiving connections. A user following a changed premise may therefore need both accounts, although the full Method remains in one description.
Management.Reference:4 - Development, shared support and effective commitments
Management can support the development of an undertaking, its participants and the practices they use. Its contribution is to make the selected work supportable and keep its commitments connected. The development question remains what new problems become attainable and what changes make that possible; a sound allocation does not answer it. FPF C.40.OD supplies the open-ended construction, FPF C.40.JD connects a way of obtaining a result with the development of its holder and provision, and FPF C.40.NP continues from a useful result to another worthwhile attainable problem. A bounded management decision can finish while that development continues.
Management.Reference:4.1 - Shared support connects branches without merging their purposes
Research, product provision, human development, infrastructure work and community work can each be worth undertaking while competing for the same performers. Ranking each direction separately can promise incompatible work or charge the same common provision several times. The management whole needs both the reasons for pursuing the branches and a feasible account of their shared means.
STR.16 constructs shared versus branch-specific support, joint demand and feasible combinations. It preserves scientific and editorial ends and decisions, and can use an adequate existing Strategy result directly. For a development provider, the comparison can include its own development, a shared Method library, independent scientific contributions, business-to-consumer and business-to-business provision, client projects and work involving people, AI and communities alongside current obligations. These are possible branches of one provider’s portfolio, not a required organization of development.
A shared office is one possible realization of a common contribution. The common part must remain usable for each receiver; each branch still needs its subject interpretation, acceptance and any distinct support. Shared maintenance can save repeated work while adding coordination, waiting, adaptation and a common failure exposure. Provision within each branch can be preferable when specialist criteria, confidentiality, independent judgement or incompatible calendars make sharing unsuitable. Either arrangement can use distributed performers instead of an office.
The provider’s remit is a separate choice: a service specializing in development can obtain other subject expertise externally and still supply its own contribution. C.40.JD:4.5 explains that distinction; STR.16:4.3 develops the sharing comparison. FPF C.32.MWA.PP supplies the performance and provision architecture when those arrangements still need construction; OCE.4 supplies an organizational contribution architecture when an organization boundary must be designed. Neither a portfolio nor an office name establishes the needed capability or authority.
Demands on the same performer must be reconciled against that performer’s availability, even when that person fills several roles. A research branch’s assigned cost share is also different from a payment avoided by cancelling it. STR.16:4.4 retains those distinctions and the actual time windows. A result dependency is another relation: a product needs new research only where a specific receiving operation cannot proceed with an adequate existing or alternative result. Independent inquiry can remain worth supporting on its own grounds.
Independent mathematical inquiry with no material shared dependency need not acquire a portfolio or office merely to use a development Method. The management comparison stops with the sufficient bounded decision and reopens the affected combination when a shared condition changes. When continued development is part of the purpose, its next problem comes from the development construction rather than from a requirement to perpetuate the management project.
Management.Reference:4.2 - A proposal reaches work through judgement, decisions and contributions
An accepted strategy does not supply all the contributions needed to enact it. Telling people about the strategy can leave both a substantive objection and an incompatible promise unanswered. The connection is through the participants’ actual work, authority and response to the same proposal.
LDR.1 obtains and continues a missing leadership contribution. LDR.2 negotiates complete feasible contributions. LDR.4 prepares a proposal through decision, commitments, a mutually understood start and first useful work. This last contribution includes what is sometimes called propitka: relevant trusted judgement and examination of consequences can change the proposal before commitment, and first use tests what the agreement actually provided. An adviser may help a participant judge the proposal without having authority to decide or commit on that participant’s behalf.
When a subject question still needs a useful answer, FPF B.5.SD supplies its construction through substantive discussion. An unsupported inference needs subject reasoning; a real disadvantage can require another proposal; incompatible contributions need an agreement that can be performed. These returns do not make agreement a test of technical truth or make a technically sound proposal acceptable to every participant. Informed refusal and a decision under a valid non-consensual rule remain different results.
LDR.4 supplies the whole passage when that is missing. One of the other Methods can be used directly when only its contribution is needed. A voluntary community need not share an employer: CB.13 can establish the shared mandate, while participants retain powers they have not delegated. In a corporation, the applicable governance acts retain their own conditions. A person or AI may perform an authorized contribution; fluent analysis or a simulated preference does not supply another party’s consent. Ordinary sufficient coordination needs no special preparation campaign.
The first useful handover supplies evidence at its actual scope. Continued help can remain part of the arrangement; success with that help does not show independent mastery. When the first use fails, LDR.4 returns the missing explanation, capability, means, access, authority or Method to its supplier instead of prescribing another announcement.
Management.Reference:4.3 - Connected documents express compatible results
A provider may need a concept, strategy, project architecture and programmes for its own development and its capacity to help clients. Those documents describe different subjects and decisions. Their usefulness depends on the compatible contributions they describe, rather than on adopting the same layout or copying one framework’s contents table.
FPF C.40.OD:4.8 identifies the decisions and Methods that must remain available at the point of use. STR.6 supplies complete strategic alternatives; STR.8:4.2a explains why proposed changes and already available contributions can work together; STR.11 supplies bounded commitments. This connects the reason for a result to the actions that could obtain it, without turning every constituent action into a new initiative or treating a proposed contribution as already performed.
For organization work, OCE.3 supplies concept alternatives, OCE.4 the contribution architecture, OCE.7 paired product and organization decisions, and OCE.9 bounded realization. Research Method Practice supplies the required inquiry; Human Capability Development, a selected human development programme; Community Management, a participation or common-work arrangement; and Implementation Facilitation, a helping undertaking. The constituent table and external-contribution account locate their full languages. C.32.MWA.PP connects the performance and provision arrangements, STR.16 tests joint feasibility where shared means make it a real question, and Leadership obtains missing joint contributions to formulation and enactment.
For example, a strategy may select an assisted diagnostic service while an organization design assumes every recipient will perform the diagnosis independently. The two texts describe different receiving results. If the service remains assisted, its plan must retain the qualified helper’s actual contribution and demand. If independent mastery is selected, the capability and conditions for independent performance need their own grounds. Capability development is an additional result only where that capability is missing. A delivery plan remains infeasible if it relies on the same specialist for incompatible simultaneous demands, even when all its documents use the same role name. C.32.MWA.PP and STR.8 expose the first mismatch; STR.16 and LDR.2 carry any changed demand into a feasible agreed whole.
The resulting documents must agree about the subjects, commitments, means and contributions on which they rely. A provider’s planned service, work actually delivered and a recipient’s new capability remain separate claims. Assistance to a client stays within the agreed remit; scientific choice retains its independent criteria. An affected change returns to each decision or receiving use that depended on the old condition, while independently adequate results remain usable.
Only the content needed for the next responsible action is required. A recurrent local practice can warrant an LPF under E.4.DPF, as C.40.OD:4.8 explains; a contract, resource allocation or project document does not acquire that function by being placed beside it. If a required construction is absent from the supplying Methods, the remaining result is the specific missing Method or connection, not a complete package established by its document titles.
Management.Reference:5 - Two connected uses
Management.Reference:5.1 - A voluntary practice-development network
Several independent groups want to develop and exchange a better diagnostic practice. Their useful result is a repertoire that practitioners can apply; their members also value mutual help. They are considering a shared development office, a small coordination service and separate provision by each group.
STR.16 compares those arrangements over the same period while preserving the distinct inquiry and practitioner uses. CB.14 organises the joint work on the repertoire; RMP supplies a needed research result, and FPF C.40.OD supplies the larger development construction when continuing development is the purpose. Management must make the chosen contribution supportable without deciding its scientific conclusion by agreement.
In this constructed situation, a qualified reviewer has eight available hours in the relevant week. Each of two proposed activities requires five of those hours, including preparation and return. Each fits alone; together they require ten. MA.2 keeps the relevant capacity distinct from nominal availability, CB.9 exposes the participants’ other commitments and support terms, and LDR.2 constructs a feasible whole. A qualified external contribution, different timing or a smaller promise can resolve the shortage. Shared administration alone supplies none of the missing review hours.
CB.13 establishes who may make the common allocation, where a mandate is missing. Each group retains the powers and commitments it has not delegated. LDR.4 helps carry the chosen proposal into effective decisions and first use. Existing adequate access and arrangements can be retained; ADM.9 supplies a missing administrative condition. A no-office arrangement can be sufficient. Help from a qualified person or AI can supply a contribution without requiring every participant to learn its Method; consent, information permissions and the actual means to rely on that help remain conditions.
If a volunteer withdraws an offered contribution, the management question is which promises depend on it and what can now be agreed. The available research findings remain available within their grounds. CB.11 can support reduction, transfer or ending if no feasible continuation remains. This preserves voluntary participation while making the common undertaking dependable within its stated limits.
Management.Reference:5.2 - A new order in an operating business
The constructed order in MA.1 requires 26–29 rig-hours for 100 accepted units. Twenty usable hours and a purchasable ten-hour block supply enough capacity under the case’s conditions. The block can be booked for 240 currency units; other additional payments are 300. OPS.14 compares the 1,200 receipt with 540 of additional payments, giving 660 under the stated absence of displaced work.
That positive difference leaves the dated funding question open. Without the order, the associated example supplies 500 of unrestricted cash through day 28 after all other receipts and obligations. The order requires 440 now, leaving 60; another 100 is due on day 7, while its receipt arrives on day 28. The day-7 funding gap is therefore 40. FIN.2 is the entry when that corporate liquidity question needs further construction. The responsible participants can obtain funding, agree changed payment terms, revise timing or refuse the proposed order; the favorable total does not select the response.
MKT.11 makes the offered delivery conditions match the supported arrangement, and OPS.13 preserves the obligations already made to other customers. ADM.8 and ADM.9 obtain any missing permission and usable provision. Use CGOV.3 and CGOV.11 if the proposed act exceeds an existing delegation or requires a corporate decision. Ordinary work within an adequate delegation can continue directly.
If the choice instead turns on keeping, leasing or replacing the rig, EAM.10 and EAM.12 add the asset comparison and its qualified technical inputs. Engineering supplies the needed design or functioning result. Management selects and supports the contribution and follows what it actually makes possible in the service. The calculation illustrates the joins; real capacity, terms, safety and authority require the evidence applicable to the actual order.
Management.Reference:6 - Boundaries and external contributions
| Needed contribution | Supplying practice and return |
|---|---|
| Maintain required functioning through policy, work and programme | Maintenance Engineering and Management (MNT). How can required functioning be maintained through technically supported policy, feasible work and a continuing programme? MNT.2, MNT.7 and MNT.13 connect policy, operation and programme learning. Failure and condition knowledge constrain service promises, response and support. Programme evidence can change the policy, provision or operating commitment while asset-value decisions remain with EAM. |
| Engineer a product, service or platform | Engineering (Engineering DPF Suite) supplies the relevant design, realization and qualification Methods. Management supplies purpose, commitments and provision and uses the qualified result. The practitioner may perform the engineering Method or obtain its result, according to capability and authority. OCE’s organizational construction is already a constituent described in section 3.1; a management act can also change the undertaking’s current Work or resource conditions without requiring a new product or platform design. |
| Develop a person’s capability | The Human Capability Engineering Suite (Human Capability Engineering DPF Suite), including Human Capability Development (HCD), supplies human learning, practice and capability evidence. Management provides a receiving work need and feasible conditions when it relies on that capability. Assignment or attendance alone leaves the capability question open. A person supplying coaching and a manager arranging collective Work can have different direct subjects even when they support the same team. |
| Construct models or investigate a difficult choice | Decision Design (PSDA) supplies formulations, representations and warranted comparisons. Foundational Thinking (Foundational Thinking DPF Suite) supplies its formal and model-building contributions. A management use receives the relevant result under its conditions; these fields also serve other purposes. |
| Obtain professional decision support | Decision Design’s professional-support Methods (PSDA) supply engagement, representation, protected participation and advice. The receiving management decision retains its authority and implementation duties. |
| Obtain new knowledge or a usable explanation | Research Method Practice (RMP) supplies criticism-bearing inquiry; Explanation Design (EXD) supplies an account the intended recipient can recover and use. The management need selects the required contribution without supplying its epistemic grounds. |
| Obtain help in applying a practice | Implementation Facilitation (IS) supplies suitable assistance and its continuation or stop. Management can procure or allocate this help. Successful application alone establishes neither acquired capability nor open-ended development. |
| Continue development beyond one successful application | FPF C.40.OD constructs open-ended development; FPF C.40.JD connects a way, its holder and provision; FPF C.40.NP continues from a result to another worthwhile attainable problem. Management can support such work while its development result remains separately judged. |
These rows identify useful supplies outside the constituent assembly described in section 2. Using another field’s full Method, whether performed by the manager or by a specialist, retains the field’s own subject and conditions. In particular, maintenance policy and programme work remain available without making the complete MNT field a Management constituent. OCE’s organizational construction belongs to the constituent assembly for the subject reasons in section 3.1. The general construction of opportunities, composition of Methods and choice under constraints remains in FPF Core.
Management could participate in a broader discipline concerned with organising and changing collective activity, connecting its engineering contributions to wider system engineering and inquiry into social institutions and behaviour. It would contribute knowledge and practices for justified direction, legitimate commitments, provision and accountable continuation. It would receive qualified accounts of system capability and of the social conditions that affect those commitments. The broader assembly would need to connect a worthwhile collective result to both technically realizable and institutionally supportable action, and return failed premises to the corresponding practice. Management would retain its subject and the joint-supportability characteristic described above; engineering qualification and the grounds of social inquiry would remain with their respective disciplines. This is a possible assembly whose own field construction must be established before claiming that these disciplines are its parts.
Management.Reference:7 - Continuity and coverage
Management retains its disciplinary identity while its theories, tools, techniques and institutional forms change, provided that its subject and essential knowledge–practice connections remain: direction and commitments are related to legitimate acts, obtainable means, actual performance and warranted reconsideration. An adequate replacement for a constituent method must preserve the contribution on which the remaining work relies. For example, a different forecasting method can replace one used in an operating promise if its population, capacity conditions, uncertainty and receiving use remain adequately supported.
For OCE, a replacement organization model or Method preserves its constituent contribution here when organizational knowledge remains connected to constructed relations, capability, commitments and their observed consequences. For an MNT contribution used here, a replacement policy or technology must preserve the connection between required functioning, supported technical reasoning, feasible provision and feedback to the programme. Both retain their engineering conditions. A change to one assignment, machine or service condition reopens the affected uses. Extending maintenance to all organizational change or to asset-value decisions would change its bounded subject.
An account that removes authority from the commitment question, separates resource knowledge from the work it explains, or replaces voluntary participation with an assumed right to assign people loses an essential connection of the management field described here. Extending coverage to another management branch can preserve that whole when its distinct subject, contributions and consequential connections are established.
This edition offers a connected selection of management fields. Marketing develops the customer-situation and feasible-offer branch; CUST develops the relation between client variation, repeatable offerings and their continuing obligations; Finance and Governance retain their corporate scope. The Suite does not provide complete coverage of organizational behavior, employment and human-resource management, public administration, international management or supply-chain management. Obtain the appropriate professional contribution when a task depends on those subjects. The boundaries of each included DPF remain applicable.
Each constituent retains its own sources, cases and conditions for reconsideration. New knowledge, a changed institutional condition or a revised Method reopens the other contributions that rely on it. Preserve independently adequate knowledge and practices while correcting the affected connection.
Management.Reference:8 - Field basis and further reading
Management is a recognized field of scholarship and practice with differentiated intellectual traditions. The Academy of Management’s divisions and interest groups provide an institutional entry to that diversity. The Suite’s particular composition is argued through its constituent subjects and working connections above.
The Strategic Management domain statement connects knowledge of organizational strategy with decision processes, resources and consequences. Organization and Management Theory studies organizations, organizing and their wider relations, joining theoretical inquiry with practical implications. Operations and Supply Chain Management explicitly includes transformation processes in profit and nonprofit organizations and encourages connections across functions. These statements support recognition of the field and its breadth. They do not determine the membership of this Suite or validate a particular method.
The organization-change field has a constructive management basis in Galbraith’s organization-design practice and an engineering connection explained by SEBoK’s Enterprise Systems Engineering account. The AOM Organization Development and Change domain is broader than OCE’s deliberate changes to organizational relations and capability. Those sources support related practices and their boundaries, not an equation of their complete subjects.
In §2, the GFMAM Maintenance Framework, second edition distinguishes maintenance engineering from maintenance management; §§6.4–6.9 connect strategy, resources, work, performance, information and programme. This connection supports keeping the bounded maintenance field complete when Management uses it. It does not make maintenance identical to all Asset Management.
The full DPFs carry the disciplinary sources and limits needed for their own Methods. FPF C.20 explains discipline composition; FPF E.4.PFAD distinguishes that question from the choice of a framework or publication arrangement.
